Easy DIY For A Winter Wedding With Succulents
Succulents are great flower choices for winter weddings and dances. You can easily make a boutonniere or corsage that is beautiful and unique. It's easy to do and a simple way to add your own flair. Learn how to make your own with florist Erin Nielson in this step-by-step guide!
Supplies You'll Need

First off, here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Succulent cuttings
- Scissors
- Wire
- Wire cutters
- Floral tape
- Ribbon
- A boutonniere pin
Make a Plan

The first thing you’ll want to do is decide what succulents you’ll want to pair together. One thing I love about Erin’s work is her combination of colors and textures. Once you know what you want together, you’ll start adding the wire.
Make a "Stem"

Depending on the succulent you are using, you may need to cut off the roots.
Since succulents don’t have a long stem you need to add wire to create a “stem”. To do this, insert a piece of wire in the base of the succulent and push it through until the halfway point.
Or Strengthen the Stem

Another way you can create a long stem for a succulent is to wrap the length of the stem with wire and leave a long piece at the end. Use two separate pieces of long wire to add extra strength.
Bend the Wire and Prep for Tape

Then you’ll fold the wire down to form the base for the “stem”.
Wrap with Floral Tape

Take a piece of floral tape and wrap the actual stem of the succulent all the way down to the bottom of the wire.
The nice thing about having a wire stem is you can easily bend the head of the succulent to make it face whatever way you want.
Repeat and Combine

Create a wire stem for all the succulents you are using. Then start matching succulents together and find the ones that fit the best.
Wrap Succulents Together

After you've created a stem for all the succulents you are going to use and know which succulents you want together, start by wrapping floral tape around two succulents.
Add Additional Succulents

Continue adding succulents and wrap them together with floral tape until you have a complete set.
Wrap with Ribbon

Once your succulents are taped together, wrap a ribbon around the stems to cover up the floral tape. Use a color that matches the succulents and the theme of your event.
Make as Many as You Need!

Using succulents is a quick and simple way to make a boutonniere. Plus, these will last for a week or longer without needing to be refrigerated. In fact, you don't want to put these in the fridge. Just leave them on a counter where they'll get bright, indirect sunlight (not full sun).
Use Unusual Plants

While you can find beautiful rosette succulents, one way to make these extra unique is to use succulents that aren't a typical color or shape. In this boutonniere, we used Mother of Millions along with a stressed (orange) Haworthia to make it a bit more masculine.
